After an exhausting previous day, I woke up late, about ten in the morning. My guide showed me the last part of what I needed to know. He led me to his house, a dome-like house made with mud-clay bricks. He showed me how to cook. Basically, you could roast something over a fire, but a simpler way was to dig a hole in the ground. Then, burning stones were dropped in the hole, as well as burning up water. Then, food could be dropped in there and be cooked. He then showed me where he slept. I also observed there were 1-3 rooms in a house, and they were only about 6 feet long. He slept in a corner of a room where I could see a pile of grass. ‘So, they don’t have beds,’ I thought with a slight frown. He then told me that was all he could tell me. After exploring for a few hours, I headed back to the center of town. I saw three young boys playing around. They appeared to wear fine clothing, a privilege only the rich got. They saw me and walked over to me. “Hey, do you know how to write?” one asked. “Uhm… No?” I responded. They led me over to the shade of a date palm tree, then showed me how to write on a clay tablet. I then realized why writing was only taught to wealthy boys. It was extremely difficult with many symbols. I was there for a few hours. In the evening, suddenly they all mentioned something about a Moon Festival. Curiosity getting the best of me, I followed them. The festival was amazing, with food, singing, art, and much more. It was a festive event, that’s for sure!
