Our class is time traveling to Mesopotamia! We just made it here, and it looks beautiful. Right now I am taking a wagon to Sumer. I heard about this Sumerian king named Gilgamesh. I am so excited to research about Gilgamesh! I heard Gilgamesh is an epic hero to all of Mesopotamia. He and Endiku, are known as the "Dynamic Duo." Of course, Gilgamesh is better known in beautiful Mesopotamia; he is their king. Gilgamesh was even the main character in the first poem in the world! He is like a lion, very brave. He could defeat a wild animal if he wanted to!

I just read the Epic of Gilgamesh ! It is so good! In the epic, Endiku, Gilgamesh’s best friend, gets sick and dies, and Gilgamesh searches for eternal life! He meets Ut-Napishtim, who gained eternal life by surviving an ancient flood that wiped off humanity. Ut-Napishtim tells him about a plant that if you eat it you become immortal. He wanted to save it for later. A snake came and ate it and he then learned that no one could be immortal like the Greek gods. That is a quick summary of the first ever literature peace in the world!
Many of the Sumerians live here in Mesopotamia. There are many works of literature. The Epic of Gilgamesh is actually the first piece of literature in the world! An epic is a long poem that tells a story about heroes! Gilgamesh is an amazing epic, by the way. Everyone here in Sumer LOVES Gilgamesh. I can’t wait to see Gilgamesh at the Mesopotamia Festival!
Oh yes, Gilgamesh is all the talk in Sumer. Everyone talks about him, his story, Endiku, Ut-Napishtism, and snakes. Everyone knows him and wants to be him. Everyone says he is a cross between Hercules and Ulysses. The epic was even written on 12 clay tablets! Sooo many tablets right?! Anyways, Sumer. Was. Amazing. Coming back soon, Sumer!
